Need help with Acer Extensa 4420 Sound

I am using an Acer Extensa 4420. About a month ago I got a new hardrive because the last one crashed. I believe my headphones worked after that but they have quit. Realtek doesn't recognize the jack. I've done updates with Realtek. I am stuck. I'm getting very annoyed considering I depend on my headphones. If anyone has similar trouble or knows how to fix this. PLEASE let me know. I get sound perfect from the computer speakers. Mic works..

you could try different headphones.
if your speakers work, then the jack might be broken.
