Need advice for new PC

Hello all.
Not long ago my PC broke down and now im going to build myself a new one. Ive done some reading and i guess ill go for Intel.. probably a Core 2 Duo proc even tho theyre pretty expensive.. Im going to spend about 700-800 euros on the new PC. Ill need a mobo, proc, ram, video card, hdd and a PSU. Ill be using the pc mainly for surfing the net, downloading stuff and playing games.

First of all i need some advice on what mobo to get. I wont be doing any overlocking at first but after a while maybe ill want to do some. And i need good built in sound. Also i havent used anything with SATA support so i need to know what i should be looking for. And whats the difference between SATA and SATAII? And do the new mobos still support the old grey cables because id like to use both my old HDD wich doesnt have SATA and a new one with SATA.

Then wich of the core 2 duo procs are the best to get?

Then theres ram. Im thinking of getting a corsair kit of 2, not sure 1 or 2gb. Are those good? What speed would be best - 667 or 800? Is there a big difference between the speeds?

I have no idea what video card i should look for. Wich are better now geforce or radeon?

And finally i need a good PSU so i can leave my PC turned on over night. Probably some 500w one.

Those are builds that I use for my business. I pretty much customize all my PCs based off a 399, 750, 1050, or a 1,800 build design.

As for CPUs, I like the E6400 or the E6600. See what you can afford. I think they're like $100 apart in difference, not sure. SATA II is suppose to transfer data faster than SATA I, but you can't really notice too much of a difference. I've tried all of them. Get SATA II because it's new. ATI vs Nvidia---hmmm, both are highly reputable companies and make awesome chipsets. I'm leaning more towards Nividia because they have a lot of variety for video cards and I love navigating through their website. Very easy to find drivers and lots of download for demos and such. Get the Geforce 7 series if you can using PCI-express.

For RAM, get at least 1GB. Core 2 Duo will utilize the DDR2 technology so get the highest speed your motherboard will be able to support.

as of right now current hard drives arnt fast enough to max the Sata 1 bus of 150Mbps

so basically all sata II does is double the already too large sata 1 bus to 300Mbps.

you can think of it this way, there is a waterpipe that runs to the septic tank.
the water pipe sometimes at a maximum gets half full, when alot of people are taking showers, craps, and washing dishes
well the plumber came in and doubled the size of the water pipe.

that new water pipe is Sata II

(so you may as well get it, its not more expensive or anything)

Ohh and as far as videocards.

you cant beat these for the money.

and Get the Ram thats rated at 800MHZ.

PS- Vista and more games are becoming very memory hungry, 2GB ram in systems will be the new standard before long.

This is kind of like the budget for my system, cept I got a couple parts of ebay, like RAM and a case. Oh and I'm going to get my 7600GT off ebay. But check out my sig to see what I'm building. If you trust ebay, I'd suggest getting a graphics card there, because they are cheaper. Ebay does not always have great prices anymore, but for computer parts it usually does. Although Newegg is great too. Get a core 2 duo if you like to search the web adn do downloads, and do some gaming, because its made for multi-tasking, and as far as I know AMDs are better for running games alone, more single task objects. Thats just what I know, I'm still learning though.
