I bought this old Dell Dimension 3000 from a friend for $50 and, besides reformating the hardrive, I have put about $200 worth of upgrades into it. Just wanted to know if this was a good deal and how it compares to newer computers. (runs on Windows XP)

Specs:
(original) Pentium 4 Processor - 2.8GHz
(original) 80GB Hard Drive
2GB memory (upgraded from 512MB)
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE PCI sound card (upgraded from onboard audio)
380Watt Power Supply (upgraded from 250Watt)
Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT 1GB PCI video card (upgraded from integrated graphics)

So all up $250?

Not really, because of the age of the parts would have been more expensive! Though Even for the age $200 for a 2gb stick of RAM,Power supply, sound card and graphics card seems a little TOO Steep for me.

I'm going to have to agree with Neodude here. I built my rig for $330 (including my upgrade to W7). I already owned the hard-drive (which I now need to replace).

Here are specs:

Athlon 64 X2 Brisbane 5400+ BE @ 3360Mhz
Biostar TA770+ A2
eVGA GeForce 8600GT
Corsair XMS2 2GB (2x1)
Antec Basiq 500W PSU
Samsung 80GB HDD (probably the same as yours)
