Yesterday, Microsoft announced a partnership with Level 3 Communications which will result in better audio services for the instant messaging solution MSN Messenger 7.

After the announcement of the application's musical functions, Microsoft is focusing now on the quality of an audio
conversation between two or more users.

The included musical functions allow sharing a list of songs with the friends from the address book. The function is related to the company's sharing software „ThreeDegrees” which allows listening of the songs by streaming from a shared list.

To improve the sound of audio conferences, Microsoft has resorted to the Voice over IP technology and the network provided by Level 3; the data transfer takes place even if the users have activated Windows Firewall which is a default option in Windows XP with SP2 installed.

A month ago, MSN Messenger partnered with Logitech to improve the quality of the video transmissions. Microsoft recommends the Logitech webcams for the MSN video conferences, these products offering full screen support and audio synchronizing.

Logitech's solutions also allow the data to pass through firewalls and NATs (Network Address Translations) which otherwise block the video communication.

All the Logitech webcams are compatible with the application and will be labeled "Recommended by Microsoft for MSN Messenger". In Europe, Logitech has launched Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX for MSN Messenger, a package for video communications which includes a top-notch webcam and a pair of Logitech headsets with a microphone, which cancels background noise and provide stereo sound.
