Hi guys, I'm currently running only this window on my computer and have no other applications running and I noticed that I am using 72% of my ram, and when i close the browser, I am still using 70%. My computer is custom built and only about a year old. What is this reason for this, and how can I fix it? Thanks!

How much RAM do you have installed, and what's all running in the background? Many things you install will have background processes that eats up memory when you think nothing is running. Uninstalling programs you don't need anymore has a potential of lowing the amount of RAM used while idle.

HijackThis is a good tool for finding out what is running on startup and taking up memory.

I have 4gb of RAM and about 100 processes running in the background. Is this my problem?

100 processes seems excessive, even for Win 7. Is this right after start-up?

What OS are you using, and does your graphics processor share memory or does it have its own?

Yeah, 100 processes is right after start up on Windows 7, My video card is the MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card, I don't know if it has its own memory or not

It does...

I suggest downloading Hijackthis and doing a scan. It will identify processes that are currently running on your system which may be suspect, as well as entries in your registry that you might want to examine, among other things.

If you have questions about what you see, post the report and we can go over it with you.

You have way too many instances of Google Chrome running, what is going on there?

Also, I see you have Norton's AV-- a notorious resource hog. I'd switch to Avast! or Microsoft Security Essentials.

Spiceworks is a network monitoring tool Are you aware that you have it installed?

Do you have a Creative Labs device that you plug into your computer? If you no longer use that device, then you can get rid of those.

I will go through and replace and end some of these processes and see how much it helps, thank you for your help!
