Location to build computer?

Where can I build my computer?
I mean a surface physically wise because I don't want to build it on carpet, because I'm under the impression that there's static.
Any recommendations?
I'm not saying these will work but for example cardboard, marble, glass.
Ask if you need any more specifics.

Any hard surface should do. I usually do it on the kitchen table..

Ah ok...Nothing wrong with being safe

I've built several computers on carpets before. Really the only thing to do is not build up static electricity and you're good.

a lot of people suggest cardboard (it's the simplest and easily accessible for most), I build mine on my carpet, but I just make sure that I touch the metal hdd/optical casing every time before I put my hands inside my computer...
