Laptop sometimes wont POST

I have a laptop that sometimes when the power button is pressed just displays a black screen and the fan just spins. It wont even get to the BIOS logo.

I used memtest86 v4.20 and at nearly 50% i got 4 - 5 thousand errors so i assumed one of the two DDR3 ram modules was faulty so I then went to test the individually.

My problem is no i can get memtest to show any errors no matter what module in what socket.

I testes them together again and again no errors.

I have yet to reset the BIOS but before i do i am going to run 10 passes on each stick.

Does this sound similar to anyone ?

Anyone got any ideas as to why this is happening ?

It could very well be the RAM but it might just need resetting.

Take the RAM out give it a moment, put the RAM back in and make sure it is sitting correctly.

Think it turned out to be the first of the two RAM socket in the end.

Plug an external display in and see if anything shows on that.
