Hey all!

I am not very good with networking and don't know a great deal about it. I want to setup my computer and my laptop (will be getting it for Chistmas) so that I can play LAN games.

That is how everything will be connected once set up, and I was wondering. Do I need to take any extra steps to make it work as a LAN?

Thanks,
Jamie.

Well, first off, you need to make sure your router is a modem as well as a router, to get the internet going....secondly, i suggest setting up a static IP address for both the computers..assuming your on XP:

Now you should be all set to go :)

Yes, it is an ADSL modem/router, forgot to mention it. I have currently got my computer already connected to it.

And I have already set up a static IP before because I wanted to add port forarding to my router.

So I am good to go then?

Thanks,
Jamie.

Out of curiosity, would everything still work it was a wireless router and the laptop was connected wirelessly?

I guess so. Never tried it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
