Okay. So I decided to upgrade from a P4 1.6 to a P4 3.0E (with the 1mb L2 cache). However, it wasn't as simple as plug-n-play. I put the chip in and turned on the power; NOTHING.
I have upgraded the BIOS to version 1019, I have tried to clear the CMOS and that did not enable the chip to work.
I thought that my chip might've been DOA, but when I plugged it into my bro's it ran fine.
The local geek-shop suggested it might be: RAM memory, power, or the MOBO. But he was working on the EXACT same thing that I had. Okay well here is what I got. If anyone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.
ASUS P4P800 (no special letters, just the generic P4P)
Pent 4 3.0E (is what I'm trying to load) 800mhz, 1mb L2 Cache, Socket 478
512k DDR 2100
350 Volt Power Supply
Win XP Home ED SP2.
Not sure what else you need, but I have the EVEREST (Home ED) computer thing (the one suggested I download). Please help me find out what I need to do in order to make this chip work. I have checked both Intel and ASUS website and they state that the chip is compatible. So it must be something else.
Thanks in advance.
