issue with menu links and text in certain programs

I'm not sure what caused it. I just reformatted today and when I finished installing everything I needed I noticed this problem. I don't know exactly when it happened. Here's my computer specs:

Windows XP Pro SP2
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
MSI K7N2 Delta L+
ATI Radeon 9800+

I'm sorry if there is already another thread about this. I wasn't sure exactly what to search for. I also apologize if more information is needed. Any ideas?

Okay, I figured out the first problem. The discoloration behind the links was an issue with the Royale theme I am using. I still haven't found out the problem with the text not appearing.

Well I figured out the other problem too. I began getting suspicious when I noticed the second problem happened on my friend's computer as well. I noticed we both have McAfee 8.0 installed. I disabled everything related to McAfee and restarted. Magically, the text appeared in the program. Removing McAfee doesn't fix the problem, so I guess I'm just going to reformat again.
