Hey all,

I am wanting to build a sound, but (relatively) inexpensive gaming system.

I want to have a vcard with 2gb vram. I am looking at the "SAPPHIRE 100270SR Radeon HD 4850 X2 2GB 512-bit (256-bit x 2) GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video ... – Selling for 209.99 at NewEgg.

My primary goal is to be able to utilize this card.. I need to find a compatable motherboard/cpu combo and RAM.

I already have a case, power supply, and 1GB Hard drive.

Pleas let me know what your recommendations are!

Thanks all!

Well, I went to BestBuy and got that Sapphire card for 160 dollars.

I don't know if it was a sale or what, but it sure made me toss my old Radeon in the spare parts bin.

You have a 1GB hard drive? That isn't any good. Unless you meant 1TB of course.
If you want a gaming computer, make sure your power has SATA connections to it because personally SATA > IDE in a long shot.

NewEgg often has specials if you can spare a day or two on a lot of items.

For instance, day 1 might have a CPU/mb combo for 150 and then tomorrow it'll drop to 120 + a discount on "gaming" RAM.

Personally for RAM, I use the high performance kind, since I overclock a lot.

Hope I can help you in the future.

What power supply do you have? You'll need a good one for that.

How much do you want to spend? If you can ballpark it to within $30 or so, that'd be great. Knowing that makes finding parts much easier.

edit: And I'm assuming you mean a 1TB hard drive?

I have the 4850 x2. You will need 650-700 watts for it.

Awesome card though. You'll be good with a phenom I x4.
A phenom II would be better but isnt necessary.

Haha. Sorry, I meant 1TB!

I'd like to spend around 400 or less for the processor/cpu/memory

I have a 650W power supply.. so hopefull that'll do.

Thanks in advance!

What model is the PSU?

Well for $400, you could pretty easily get a CPU and RAM, or did you mean motherboard too?

Get this CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...103808&cm_re=phenom_x4-_-19-103-808-_-Product
This RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=DDR3_4gb_crucial-_-20-148-262-_-Product
This mobo if you need one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131366&cm_re=am3-_-13-131-366-_-Product

That should be good.

+1, but wouldn't the G-skill Ripjaws and maybe a 790X mobo be better?

790GX is a better chipset than 790X.

I see no point in getting expensive RAM because you can easily OC the crucial yourself, and if you need to do it even more, get some RAMsinks and they will work better than most RAM

I think this seems pretty darn reasonable from NewEgg.. but if you have any suggestions for cheaper parts, or better alternatives to what I've choosen, please let me know.

Thanks guys!

You need a better PSU. High wattage and low price is not a recipe for long life or stable power. This is the cheapest one I'd recommend for a system like that:

As for the case, that one is poo. This one is excellent, and after shipping and rebates is like $1.50 more:

790GX is a better chipset than 790X.
Is it? I read on the AMD forums that the the 790x has no igp, but is capable of 16x/16x crossfire, vs 8x/8x on the GX. (although now that I look, all of the 790x boards on newegg only run x8/x8...wtf?)

I see no point in getting expensive RAM because you can easily OC the crucial yourself, and if you need to do it even more, get some RAMsinks and they will work better than most RAM
Better timings.
