Hello,

By Jacke, I meant Jacked! Anyway, I have an older Gateway 550 GR desktop with the following specs
Pentium 4 3.2 GHz, 800 bus speed
2 GB Ram, 200 GB SATA hard drive.

A couple of years ago I upgraded the video card to a Nvidia 7800 GT and it worked well. I decided to try to get a couple of more years out of it w/a better video card. So I installed more Ram (3 GB, 1.5/side) put in a 600 W Corsair power supply in, installed win 7.

So before I installed the (as yet unpurchased) video card I have noticed that it's gotten slower, there's a fan that's running most of the time, and it's shut down once or twice due to overheating.

I'm cinsidering tooing it and getting a new one - any ideas?

Make sure your CPU has good thermal conductivity (Thermal paste might need to be reapplied) and make sure that new PSU of yours doesn't have the wiring hanging out all over in the case. With the wiring all over the place, it will greatly reduce airflow, and affect the temperatures, even to overheating.

before buhing a new heat sink I'd also make sure everything is blown out and dust free. Otherwise lhuser hit the nail on the head.
