This is a quick, easy one...I think...

I have an HP Mini 1030NR (which I LOVE) and was wondering what the hell the "laptop expansion port" on the left right next to the headphone jack is.

Anyone know?

Well its literally an expansion port...to expand your hardware. Aka docking bay..you can use any sort of "Add-on" card some will allow you to use more usb ports..a different soundcard..wireless card..graphics card.. etc. YOu have to buy the addon card though

but specifically on your laptop its used for connecting the HP expansion bay...so you can have display on a LCD/CRT monitor

• Use your notebook's display as your monitor; it's easy to adjust it to
a comfortable height

• Stay connected to peripherals, power, and the Internet through a
single connection1 supplying six USB ports, an Ethernet port, and a
power jack

• Make your notebook a multimedia powerhouse with stereo sound from the
integrated premium Altec Lansing speakers

• Connect to your home entertainment system via a variety of audio and
video out ports2

• Operate cable-free and work more comfortably with the full-sized
wireless keyboard and wireless optical mouse

• Charge your notebook battery while connected to the expansion base
(using your notebook's AC adapter)

• Control media and presentations from the palm of your hand when using
the HP Mobile Remote Control (sold separately)

• Expand your storage with the preformatted, high-capacity hard drive
accessory kit (sold separately)
