How to play CD sound thro earphone

Hi everyone,

Pls help me!
When I load a CD into DVD burner or the CD-Rom player, they can both produce sound through the pc speakers. However, when I tried to listen to it through plugging my earphone into the phono port in front, no sound comes out of the earphone. Adjusting the volume control doesn't make any difference also.
What could be the reason?
Any advice is much appreciated.

Is this a custom build? If so, usually the microphone and headphone ports are not hooked up. Look in the back of the computer for another port for your headphones, and plug it in. It should work. This is usually done for the reason if you hook up the front headphones and mic, it disables the on-board in the rear of the PC. And most people are used to hooking their speakers up in the rear. If not a custom build, post back with the model, and manufacture of the PC.

Yeah, there's a special connector for the drive in order to use headphones through the drive.
