Help with Hard Drive

Just yesterday I noticed that my hard drive light is blinking on and off all the time and I can hear the sound of the drive going continually whether I am performing a task or not. It doesn't seem to affect the performance of the computer at all, but I know it isn't supposed to be doing this. Nothing on the tool bar to indicate that anything is running in the background. What do I do? Thanks.

Thanks technoman, but I've run a couple of spyward programs and ferreted out a few invaders. I seem to be clean now.

yeah, I hate spyware, once had 203 viruses(not spy thing's) and my PC was slowed to a cral, but w/ spybot search and desrtoy i am feel better then i was when i was 20 (wait i have never been 20) sob's, sob's, sound of the loading of a shotgun, load noise, blackness.
