I only play 2 rather old games (pretty sure the graphics card should run them) and I like the edit videos every once in a while, nothing special though. Heres a quick build I made at Dell on an XPS 210.

PROCESSOR Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB)

OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium

MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz- 4DIMMs

HARD DRIVE 320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst
Cacheâ„¢

OPTICAL DRIVE 8x DVD+/-RW Drive

MONITORS 19 inch S199WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel Monitor with TrueLife

VIDEO CARD ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 256MB

SOUND CARD Integrated Sound Blaster®Audigy™ HD Software Edition

KEYBOARD & MOUSE Logitech Cordless Desktop S 510 Keyboard and Mouse - Arctic Silver

FLOPPY & MEDIA READER No Floppy Drive Included

Please tell me anything you think needs changing!

Looks like a decent build to me. If I were you, I'd go for a quad core, but I don't know your budget.

Also, I think 2GB might be enough for your tasks (from what I understand). 4gigs might be overkill if you aren't going to be running multiple memory-hogging programs, games, etc.

Everything else looks pretty good!

is an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6700 (4MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1066 FSB) good?

Also, this is probably stupid, but, doesn't Vista itself take up 2GB of RAM? That would take up all my RAM. I don't know if that means anything or not. I'm not all that great with computers.

I'd honestly get a Quad Core (Q6600) instead of an E6700...that'll save you a few dollars there, too.

Regarding vista, nope, it doesn't take up 2 gigs of RAM. It takes up a few GIGs on your hard drive, but 2 gigs of ram will suffice for the stuff you want to do.

I don't think he needs a quad for the things he wants to do. A nice wolfdale E8*00 will be perfect.

A E6700 like he picked would be more expensive than a Q6600 like i'm suggesting, so basing it on those two selections, I'd go with a Q. Let's wait till he chimes in again.
