Help with computer and processor!!!

Hi, I was wondering about my processors. I wanted to know which one is better.

I have a choice of a few processors...

AMD Athlon II X2 dual-core processor 255 (3.1GHz) AM3
or
AMD Phenom II X2 Dual-core processor 545 (3.0 GHz)

Whats the difference between Athlon and Phenom???
(sorry not that computer savvy)

What would be better for gaming?

Phenom II would be better, obviously.

The Athlon II is basically the same architecture as the Phenom II, the difference being its lack of L3 cache.

Phenom II x2 can also (sometimes) be unlocked to three or four cores, assuming your mobo has ACC.
