When looking at hard drives on newegg: they list average latency, average seek time, and average write time. Is the lower the number better for average latency, and the higher the number better for average seek time and average write time? Or is it the lower the better for all three?

Is perpendicular recording technology on hard drives supposed to make them really good?

Perpendicular recording offers triple the storage density of longitudinal recording. So the manufacturers can offer more storage space using the same discs. It's not necessarily faster or better then standard drives, it's a better way of recording to a disc.
