Hard Drive Copying Problem

Hi everyone, have a quick question here.

I have a 1 TB internal hard drive and it is partitioned into two drives. I use one drive simply as a storage and when I am backing up stuff from drive C: into drive M: (C: being my normal drive, M: being the one I am backing up to) the copy times for say a 1GB file was taking around 45 seconds. Now that same file is taking around 5-6 minutes if not more.

I have not changed any settings or done anything differently, I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to check out if everything is running as it should or is there something completely wrong with my hard drive?

Thanks in advnace.

im guessing since this is a 1TB drive, its fairly new?

i would HIGHLY recommend a program called spinrite. no its not free, but this small investment could protect and give you an early warning of a drive failure spinrite also provides data recovery. it certainly sounds like something is going on, possibly your drive is extremely fragmented, but that should'nt add minutes onto your copying time.

good luck! begin backing up your data...
