Gateway Laptop (MT3423) screen will not come on sometimes

Hello all,

I have an older Gateway laptop whos screen will sometimes not come on. I have to restart it several times and then the screen will work. It stays on after that. Here is what I have tried so far (when the screen hasn't worked):

Hooked it up to a monitor - no picture.
pulled the hard drive and started laptop - no picture
download drivers from gateway- downloads the driver but when I set it up Nvidia page says says it cant locate the driver.

What can I do here?

I'm guessing that you have Windows XP on this machine. In that case, right click on My Computer and go to Properties. Go to the hardware tab and then Device Manager. Right click on the display adapter and then Update Drivers. You can manually choose the driver that you downloaded from the Gateway site.

Actually, it had vista and now I've upgraded it to Win 7. Same instructions apply?
