My brother has been having problems with his hard drive for a while and asked for my help?

I am not sure of the reason but he is unable to format it,error message ish.
I have told him to remove the hd and send it to me.

I will connect it to my pc and format it,so he can reinstall the o/s, xp pro
My system is amd athlon750 xp pro been running brilliant all its days.
His pc is also an amd 750 xp pro but his wife has screwed it up with dodgy files etc

In preperation I downloaded a boot up disc from the microsoft site
but when I try and fit it on a floppy it won't fit.
Shall I burn it onto a cd and set the pc to boot up from the cd rom?

I have also found a microsoft Windows 98 second editition boot disc (floppy) will this boot a clean hd up to a point where I can load the xp pro?
any help appreciated.Gary

burn the boot up CD onto a cd. if you say install again, you will have the option of formatting all the partitions.

What are "partitions", is this the spliting up of the hardrives.
