E: drive won't defragment

Windows defragmenter shows that my E drive is badly defragmented but when I try to defragment it it does not do so. When I click on "Defragment" after a second it says that the drive has been fragmented. But the red parts are still there. I only have another drive (C) which can be defragmented ok. Can anyone help? I use Windows 2000.

Try some different defragmenting programs, and see if they do the same thing.

Is E: a hard drive or a CDROM drive????
