Might sound a bit stupid, but when a dual core processor is 1.8 ghz for example, does it mean it runs at 3.6 (2x1.8)? Ta.

no, both of the cores do run at 1.8GHz, but it doesn't make it 3.6GHz. It's hard to explain, but 2 cores running at 1.8GHZ don't equal 1 core running at 3.6GHz.
