dell laptop powers off.

i baught a damaged dell inspiron 8100 from a friend for cheap. im hoping to get it to work. this is exactly what it does: i plug in the power adapter (the battery is fully charged), and press "on". a green light comes on, indicating the laptop is powering up, but there is nothing on the screen, and the fans wont come on. after about 40 seconds, it turns off. is there any info (from you experienced users or on the internet) on what could be the possible causes? any input is appreciated. thanks.

I don't have a solution, but I have the same problem. My Dell Inspiron 6000 is doing the same thing. Once in a while the fans turn on, but that is as far as it goes. 15-40 seconds after the light being on it just turns off. I tried turning it on with two different batteries.

Anybody have any idea?
