my current CPU

it is an old CPU but i am trying to learn more about CPU's and how to tell if there good or not

really i do not no anything about CPU's
they both have a 2.6GHz operating system, so does this mean they will run the same and i wouldnt notice a difference?

can you reuse CPU's?

plz would someone help me out and teach me what to look for in a processor and weather or not mine is still usefull?

your pentium 4 fits in a socket 478 motherboard cpu spot, and the amd processor you linked to requires a am2 socket so you would need a different motherboard. the intel core 2 duo is an excellent processor out right now, and the price keeps coming down too.

The Pentium 4, paired with a good video card and MOBO, can actually play modern games well. You might want to upgrade to one of these.

a single core processor can have the most GHZ yet is is only 1 processor

A dual core Processor (like the ones i showed (X2)) Have A little less GHZ than a single core yet it is basiccaly 2 processors

Triple core have less GHZ but have 3 processors

and quad have the lowest, but can have about 3 GHz today have 4 processors


GHZ are the frequency at which your processor runs at hoped a helped as i am getting off now

you need to make sure your Motherboard can use it. AMD processor need AMD Motherboard

You are probably only going to get a higher speed Pentium 4 with that motherboard. Pretty much all of the Intels have moved on to newer and greater things (LGA775) and if you want anything more than what you have now (with the exception of a slight speed increase), you will need a new motherboard and new RAM in addition to the processor. Processors can't be reused as they are designed to run a certain speed.

no, the sockets are not the same, and you cant cross them either IE intel CPU with an AMD mobo.
Its best to buy a new board and CPU. Your CPU is really outdated, and it would be a waste to buy a new mobo just to use the same CPU.

ic, makes a little more sense to me now but what about reusing CPU's? is this possible?

not that i want to reuse my processor cause newegg only has 1 motherboard that can support the socket type, and has some bad reviews so.. but i just want to no if it is possible to reuse processors

i no how to tell that they are compatible with each other as far as series and socket type..

It is, as long as the CPU socket matches with the motherboard socket. After that there still may be compatibility issues.

When Intel's Core 2 Duo was released some motherboards couldn't use it because of the different power regulations it required. Some motherboards were fine with a BIOS update though.

i have decided i am not going to try to reuse me CPU.
instead i have chosen a new mobo and CPU

these should be compatible, but i am a little disappointed about the memory slots on the mobo, i would like to have 4 but with the socket type at am2 for the processor the only cheap mobo's have 2 slots for memory

i would pay a little more to get a Dual Core.
and i wouldnt go with Jetway, it doesnt seem like a quality motherboard brand.
