I have this asrock am2+ motherboard
http://www.asrock.com/MB/overview.asp?Model=N68PV-GS
and i want to upgrade to this am3 phenom II cpu
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
Now, I know that the mobo is also compatible with am3 cpu's, but I don't know if it's also compatible with that particular one. The mobo says it's compatible with "phenom", but does that include a "phenom II x4"?

Also, if it IS compatible with the mobo, are there any significant performance issues I'd need to know about?

Thanks in advance

it does say that it is AM3 compatible. that cpu used to have a 140w power design which wouldn't make it compatible, but on newegg it says its 125w. id say that it is compatible except that the hyper transport on the motherboard is 1000mhz and the cpu is 4000mhz.

Oh, I didn't even think of power issues. I think it should be ok though. And yeah, but from what I read, the hyper transport wouldn't make a significant difference unless I was using onboard video, which I'm not. Is that true?

And the main question is if the motherboard is compatible with the phenom II, or just an original phenom.

The HT makes a difference in loading and processing times. You'd get maybe 3-10 frames off from an AM3 board.

The 140W design isn't really a problem, since all AM3 CPUs are under that or equals to 140W.
