Well I'd say they are pretty even. Though core 2 duos are generally better but the 6300 is a low end c2d, while the 5600+ is a high end amd x2. I'd seriously look into that amd, it seems to be a great deal.
I'll try to find some benchmarks.

look at the one review on the 5600, the guys says when he ran 3dMark05 (I think it was) he got a better score by over 1500 with the AMD

yes its a good cheep prossesor
but the lower end c2d beats amds highest at a lower clockspeed
pluse they overclock a lot better as well
not that i favor intel over amd
just that plain facts r core2duo rules any thing amd has out right now

Now that is not ture. A top-of-the-line AMD will crush the low-end Core 2s. The Core 2s out do anything in their price-range, but nothing above it.

hmm.. interesting claim.
If you want a core 2 duo that will pretty much own any amd cpu even close to it's price range you are probably looking at the e6600.
