Hi,

I have had my computer for a few months now, and recently it has been shutting down very randomly, with no message at all. Sometimes open programs will flicker a little, and then they will all close and the computer shuts down. I have a Celeron 2.6g processor, 256mb memory, MSI VIA Motherboard, and I'm running Windows XP Home SP 2. I also have AVG, Spybot and Zonealarm running, but I havn't detected anything. Please tell me if you need any more information.

Nick

Try panda online scan - google it, that should detect everything, check your running processes and post a hijackthis log please.

i had a laptop like that it is some setting in the bios, that when ever it just barely freeze's up (like you probally wouldnt notice on a regular machine) it shuts down... why there is this feature i have no clue...

If that computer came prebuild, there will only be one fan, on the CPU, add another in if you can. If you cant get another case.

Does it say "Windows is shutting down..." or does it just "poof- power off"?
If it's going through the process of shutting down (1st option) it is more than likely something in the BIOS telling it to shut down, or there is a power button on the keyboard that keeps getting hit or stuck (my computer shuts down everytime my 7 year old is playing Disney- she don't realize when hitting buttons, she hits the power button on the keyboard-lol) Overheating can also cause this.
If it just powers off, then we have bigger problems.

Thanks for the replys.

I was typing this reply a few minutes ago, then bang, Firefox shutdown, CPUCool gave the message it gives when you exit normally, then my computer just shutdown. It gives no messages at all, but after that it shuts down normally(The blue XP screen, Windows is logging off or whatever)

I currently am only using the 64mb graphics card that came with the computer, and I havn't opened the case yet so I assume it only has one fan.
CPUCool gave these temperatures (Degrees Celsius)

Temp1 = 24.0
Temp2 = 35.0
Temp3 = 41.5
Temp Sens 0 = 36.0
Temp Sens 1 = 38.0

I couldn't get that Panda thing working, it would get like 8% done then stop
Please tell me if you need anything else

I noticed that in 'Standard CMOS Settings' or something like that it had an option that said 'Halt On: All Errors'.
Other options were 'Halt on: No Errors', 'Halt on All Errors except keyboard' etc.

Could this be the problem? I hope so, at least it's easy to fix.
