Chipset?

So yeah, building a computer, and I just did some quick research on chipsets. I'm not too familiar with the different ones, but after looking around, I think I might go with an nVidia nForce2 or nForce3. What chipset do you guys recommend? One of those or something competely different? Also, I'm planning on going with AMD for my processor, and I'm thinking about getting a Gigabyte motherboard. Is Gigabyte a reliable brand? Should I go with another brand? Also, what's the best type of RAM to go with these days? Thanks again, guys.

I'm hoping to spend under $100 for a motherboard (this is a low- to mid-budget build). Something decent but not wallet-crushing.
