Can't install modem drivers

I had some problems with my computer yesterday, but managed to sort it out - at a cost.


The whole Windows XP 'skin' has gone, it now looks like Windows 98, and the sound has disappeared.

My biggest concern though is that I can't install AOL 9.0. It gets to the Modem drivers, and begins to install them. However, when it reaches the end, it says the operating system cannot install the drivers.

Modem is a BT Voyager 105

Help please.

What did you do to fix the problems? If I know that I might be able to figure out why things are missing.

As for the skin, this could just be a setting to use the old Win 98 one.

Right click the desktop and go to Properites,
then go to the Appearance tab, and set the 'Windows and Buttons' to XP style
