im probably going to get the AMD phenom II x3 740 OEM but what i need to know is can i use my AMD athlon II X2 regor 240 stock heatsink and fan until i can get a better heatsink and fan. I mean can i safely do this and not have to worry about overheating my processor?

the chips i believe use the same socket, and therefor are the same size and shape. I cant see the heat difference btween 2 cores and 3 cores being that big.

You could, but I don't recommend it. AMD chips will run pretty cool from those two families anyway, but the Regor chip is a 45 watt chip, while the Heka (Phenom II X3) is a 95 watt part.

If you try it and get really high idle temps (50+) then I'd just suck it up and buy a cheap tower heatsink if you can. I'm a big fan of the Freezer 64 Pro, I use it currently on a Phenom II 940 BE and it does fine, though there are other great tower heatsinks out as well.

yeah im still trying to decide on a processor to get i dont have alot of money to spend on it that is the problem im trying to decide if i want to get the OEM HEKA or if i should get a AMD athlon II X4 which one would be better for me to get price to performance wise.
