Since yesterday I have had the fake Antivirus Pro installed and I am getting a few pop ups.

My computer is taking longer to load up than it was when I got it and seems to hand when I open a new tab.

I know it is infected I have run AVG Anti Virus but the above things are still happening.

Can somone please help me clean it up and let me know what to install in order to clean it up completely.

You can use this to clean up that mess: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. If you are unable to get online, you can download it on a working computer, then put it on a CD/DVD or large USB memory stick and install it on the infected computer.

Or if you can figure out a way to get a program installed, download the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. I've never had to use it, but from what i've heard it works very well.

Use that if Malwarebyte's doesn't do the trick.

thanks I have tried both but neither seem to work. I still cant get on the net. I am getting a connection on the broken computer wirelesslywhile other laptops in the house the internet is working fine.

But just getting pages displayed on when trying to fix this broken one, it worked fine before.

Any suggestions?

Sorry, this is why you don't use free Anti-virus programs. You are **** stuck if you get anything. Though lecturing won't do any good for you, spend the $50/year to get yourself protected, or ask your ISP if they provide a product as a paying customer so it's not so much of a hassle.

Alright,

Step 1:
Boot up your computer in safe mode with networking

once loaded, try running any scanners you currently have on the computer to get the bug off.

If this doesn't work, try getting on the internet (still in safe mode btw)

If this works, goto www.pandasecurity.com and try their ActiveScan to disenfect.

Also try kaspersky's web scanner since my favorite company and most most reliable company doesn't offer a free online scanner.

If you cannot get on the internet in safe mode, goto Step 2

Step 2:
Insert your Windows XP disc

Boot from the disc

When the prompt comes up, press the related key to perform the repair function on your Windows XP partition. This will rewrite the core system files and hopefully clean up either rootkits, worms, or any other bug that is either messing your computer up, or causing your network connections to fail.

Repeat Step 1 after the Repair function
===================================
If this does not work, I would highly recommend doing a clean wipe, because at this point, you are looking at professional virus removal services which typically costs anywhere from $80-$200.

spyware doctor works very well although it costs, but you can download the trial and it will scan your pc and atleast tell you what is installed and making your computer bad. it costs of course to clean all of it out.

Sorry, this is why you don't use free Anti-virus programs.
Not true ndg2006. I've been using AVG free for years and have never gotten any nasty viruses. The particular problem he has with the fake Antivirus Pro wasn't caused by using a "free" anti-virus program.

Have a look through this forum: Spyware and Malware Removal Guides and Reading Room. I'm sure you'll find a solution to getting rid of the fake Antivirus Pro.

In my experience, saving pennies on your security online is the wrong things to be saving pennies on. Now I'm not saying AVG caused him to get the virus, but it sure didn't protect him at all costs:

Let me show you:

AVG Free vs AVG Premium

No IM protection ; IM protection
No Anti-Rootkit ; Anti-Rootkit
No Firewall ; Firewall
No Support ; Support

Now did he get Antivirus Pro from an IM message? Not likely but maybe. He more than likely has a rootkit that is causing a lot of his problems, yet AVG free doesn't protect against that.

I'm not saying the end of free A/V software, but I love listening to people think that they know computers and that AVG protects my computer and I will never get a virus. Most people don't get a virus from being cautious, and what you are cautious with, the majority of consumers aren't cautious with. The point is I spend $50/year to get a $300 virus scan engine with the top rated spyware protection in the industry...not to mention free support on trouble with their product or their fixes for large bugs. That's 0.13 cents per day, definitely not something I'm going to squeeze pennies over.

OH, and EDIT:

The top rated security analysts in the Online Security industry right now are estimating that 285 million accounts, credit card numbers, or personal information are stolen from hacking, spyware, or malware in the year 2008 alone. I gaurantee you that the large majority of these people are the people that use some kind of virus protection and aren't safe doing it. These analysts also say that even though they purchase software to protect themselves, they don't take any risk of giving away their identity to anyone.
