Buying some memory...

Alright, my situation is kind of confusing.

I have an old system I am giving to a cousin:

I am wanting to upgrade the memory on it. It has 2 slots for memory, and right now it has a 128MB stick in one of the slots. It says it has a max of 512MB of RAM.

Most of the memory I have seen for cheap (not much extra money to spend) is high density. It says that basically I couldn't use it.

For example, the basic one of those (the first). Would these not work with my PC? I asked on another tech forum and they said it would, as did all of my friends who know a lot about building PCs. Most haven't even heard of high density memory, though.

Now, I am wondering... will this memory be compatible? If not, is there another cheap alternative?

Basically, I am just wanting to know if it will work with my system, or if anyone can point me to some cheap memory that will.

Now, question number two:

The system has 128MB stick so far, and it can hold 2 sticks total with a max of 512mb. Could I just get a 512MB stick and it would cap at 512? Will the slot not hold 512MB (do I need to just get 2 256MB sticks and remove the old 128MB stick)? How would I know the maximum on each slot?

Thanks for the help, I really need it. :)

Your PC is fairly new and I don't see how the density of memory will effect your PC. I actually never heard of density associated with RAM before until now. As long as you get the right speed RAM for your motherboard and don't exceed the maximum memory size, you should be fine. If your PC is can handle a max of 512MB, check with your manual to see what the max size each memory slot can support. Some can only hold a maximum size of 256MB per slot while others can hold 512MB. You can't go wrong though if you use 2x256MB of PC100 or PC133 depending on your memory speed.

Hey, thank you. Can I get one more confirmation? I don't want to make the purchase and not be able to return the products. =\
