Whats up guys and gals, I'm trying to build a server and wanted to know 2 basic things (granted i have done the research and like everything, there is always 101 ways to do it :)

1: Is building a raid server a good/smart thing for storing and streaming.

2: Whats the best software...I hear Windows is good.

Thanks!

Windows is good if u want to pay for it.
If you are only doing storage/streaming FreeNAS might be an option - never used it but gets looks of great reviews. There are other options like Ubuntu/Fedora too that are free.
RAID might be overkill for a home server. If you are worried about losing your data, you could just back it up to an external hard drive. But what RAID were u thinking about?

I would recommend Ubuntu but you need good knowledge in Ubuntu or experience with it. If you do go with it I would do some research before you use it as it can become complicated.

Hey guys, well ill ask for some opinions here....if i do dual raid i would be looking at more drives...correct ?
My application is storage and music/movie streaming but mainly storage. Also is there any limitations on storage space ? im looking at 20+TB.
