Looking for some suggestions, i'm gonna build a quad core. I've come up with this build and am slightly over budget. I m looking to spend no more than $800. So i would like to cut corners where i can. My main concern is the cpu, mobo, and ram. Should i go Duo, or Quad. I edit videos, do a bit of photoshop, would like to start playing COD4, or games similar. Thanks.

p.s. i spoke to pc village and they said just to bring in a list and they will price match my whole build. Thanks for your help. I am from Canada, so i am shopping canadian prices.

You really don't need that motherboard. You can buy one for around 100 and spend the rest and get a high end graphics card. You're getting a crossfire motherboard and running a Nvidia card. There is no use to spend that much on it. Look on Newegg Canada. You'll get a large inventory of stuff.

Hi, I need you to answer a couple of questions to determine what parts you need exactly. Do you overclock? and what is your monitor's native resolution?

mainly IDEE, i need a firewire port, preferably on the front. I wanted to find a cheaper mobo, but the cheaper ones didnt come with a firewire port. I guess i can always find a PCI slot. I would prefer for it to be on the mobo though. 6 usb ports is fine as well. Do you guys think 2gb of ram is fine, then upgrade to 4gbs when necessary.
In terms of overclocking, i ve always have used a laptop so i didnt really have the opportunity to overclock. But would like to keep that option open, would i need to overclock if i just edit videos and play a bit of games.
I haven't picked up monitor yet, but i want a 22" or 24" monitor if that helps.
I would like to have a clear sided case.
Thanks for the help!

EDIT: whats your opinion on power supplies?

i changed up the mother board. i m still open to suggestions on that, i do need a firewire. Is my PSU okay? Are their other alternatives? Please respond, i hope to order by monday! Thanks

That's a good price, and it would be a good enough card for your resolution, but I would go with the EVGA dual slot cooler variation

I'd recommend the OCZ StealthXStream 500W over the equivalent Cooler Master model. The OCZ PSUs are manufactured by FSP, whereas CM's lower end units aren't exactly renowned for their reliability.

EDIT: Actually, after more thoroughly looking through that site, I'd go with the Phenom 9950 and the ASUS 780G.
The 9950 is slightly faster than the Q6600 for the same price, and the 780G will do everything you need it for.

since i don't plan on overclocking, or if i do, it will be rare. I am gonna stick with the intel quad processor. I read this review, at stock no overclocking the 6600 ran faster the then 9950. But if you over clock the 9950 does a lot better than the 6600 at stock. Not sure how well it performs if you overclock the 6600. In terms of the 6600 and 9950 stock, the 6600 out performs the amd. The amd consumes more power as well. Is that enough reasoning to stick with intel?
Is there another 775socket motherboard that is cheaper and will match my requirements?

I think you've got it the wrong way round there. At stock, the Phenom 9950 is slightly faster than the Q6600. Overclocked, the Q6600 is usually slightly faster than the Phenom.

Here's a review.

Are my parts "overclockable"?
What about my ram, should i run 2x1gbs now, and upgrade another 2x1gbs later on, for a total of 4? Is it possible to just run 2 x2gbs and leave the other 4 slots empty? Can i mix brands but as long as its pc2-6400? I read some motherboards need have to be running on a 64bit O.S. in order to fully utilize the 4gbs otherwise it will only acknowledge 3gbs of it?
Thanks for your help worshipme.
edit: i swapped and am ordering the antec PSU now. Whats your reasoning on the evga graphics card over the BFG
