boot up problems

Yesterday I did a fresh install of Windows XP with SP2.

Now when I boot up it restarts the on the second try it asks me how I want to boot ie safe mode, normal or last known good configuration. When I choose last known good configuration it boots. The problem is, is that it is not saving or loading the changes from the last time I booted.

Now I have been logging off before closing and that seems to work (I say seems as I've only had a few trys)

When I was installing xp yesterday I skipped the part about entering an administrators name and password as I thought this may prevent having to enter a password upon booting. Is this why I am having problems now???

I'm just guessing here as I don't really know what the problem is.

Has anybody got any ideas why it's not saving my settings or why its not booting properly???

This sounds like a driver problem on startup hit the f8 key and select safe mode see if it does it then if not uninstall the last thing you put on or anything you mighnt think is causing the problem.in safe mode logon as administrator not you
