Any ideas? display is incorrect.

I have a problem on my laptop, Presario 900, that I can't seem to fix. I am running Windows XP and it is updated.

The problem is that in programs such as Excel and IE, I can't see background colors, highlighted fields, etc. For example, if I were to visit www.gmail.com, then the page would look completely white except for the font and the form.

When I try to view an Excel spreadsheet, I cannot see the fill color that I choose for the fields that I apply fill color to.

It didn't used to be this way, and I can't figure out what setting has been changed. It is driving me crazy. Can anyone please help?

did it just happen now? try reinstalling/updating video drivers.

It happened a couple of months ago when my brother was seeing if he could do "something". I am not sure if he was able to do what he set out to do, but he definitely did something else! Of course, he has no idea what all he did, and here I am limping along trying to figure it out.

Okay- that didn't solve the problem.

Has he not adjusted something in ya display settings, like a colour scheme or something
