Should I have these on or off for video gaming? What do they do?

I know having VSync off gets you more fps, but what does antialiasing and antisotropic filtering do?

AA and AF is for eye candy ie, smooth out the bumps in pictures and makes overall gaming look better, AA taxes you video card extremely hard but AF isnt as bad. With a 6600GT i wouldnt bother turning on AA and AF.

should i just have AA and AF application controlled?

And do you recommend having VSync on or off?

put it as application controlled and turn off vsync, vsync limits the maximum fps to 60 fps.
