Acer Overheat: Am I alone?

Title says it all. Got an aspire 3000 that can't do much of anything without seriously overheating.

Besides chill pads and new computer, what are my options? Acer is telling me it's my fault and they won't fix the problem because I "must have done something to cause the computer to work so hard." BIOS won't let me undervolt, and reseating the joke they call a heat sink with fresh thermal goop didn't do crap. I can't play a DVD or run Fallout (a joke of a game in today's day and age) without it crashing in five minutes. Using a CPU clocking program didn't help either, and that dropped the CPU speed to 800 MHz from 1.8 GHz.

I feel like I missed the memo that said Acers suck. I've learned my lessons on "slim line" laptops. They look all sexy until they're bulemic.
