yes thats right $700, but for what you may ask??
well im putting together a gpu setup i wish for your opinion.
ok the first option will be not one but two beautiful 480's around $300 each
or just a single 580 3gb (from palit) for $624

gtx480's were a really hot running card, so to have 2 of them would be a bad idea, also with the 3gb gtx580 if your running a single monitor you wont need the 3gb, or ever use much of it, also $620 for a gtx580 3gb card by palit is way to much money, what part of the world do you live in ? Madagascar ? lol if you live in the U.S id go buy from newegg, i found this Newegg.com - MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 3072MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card its the fasted single GPU in the world to date but its also 3gb. but noosa is a area in QLD Australia, im from NSW, so just buy from pccasegear.com.au and the best they have to offer is MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning Edition [N580GTXLIGHTNING] - $629.00 : PC Case Gear which is the same as the one from newegg, just a different color scheme and its only 1.5gb, to be honest when your buying computer parts look around at all online shops you can find, you will be surprised how much cheaper you will find stuff, even on pc case gear the palit 3gb card is only $589, thats $35 in your pocket, or spend it on getting a better card

EDIT: it doesnt just have to be 480's or a 580. these many combinations you can do to have awsome graphics for even less money. for example

SLI GTX560 Ti:

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1193&products_id=17326 1GB version

Single Radeon HD6970:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1178&products_id=18331 2GB

Radeon HD6870X2: ( which is dual graphics card running 2x 6870's in a single card )
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1263&products_id=17832 2GB

or spend a bit more and get a big boy

Radeon HD6990:

this is just one site from victoria australia, there are plenty more

yes qld(australia)
the 480 is only around $335 shipped but only 15% slower in most games
the 580 is $635 total shiped i think and i could buy two 480's almost(for 3x 1024x1200) resolution which i still need to buy an additional two monitors. or should i just buy a nice 1080p monitor and steer away from old vga cabes.
just saying (two 480's or a 580
480 would have around a 75% increase in performance AND the 580's use even MORE power that the greedy 480's
but the heat in those 480's just kill around 95 maxxed but i would have a well ventilated room with 2x120mm and a 140mm intake fans. (with 2x140mm and 120mm exhaust fans) plus i dont want the type that dumps air into the case(reference is prefered.

OR i could be patient and wait for the sexy 28nm beasts, but i see wc in the 480's for me in the future. and the price will only(should) get cheaper for the beutiful 480's, i am getting into blender and very much udk, (which involves some power from the gpu department) i play games and (render 3d from blender also udk maps)

i like the look of that 6870x2 i would consider cfx then im talking, but that will be later on for getting another.
the thing is i just want to get into the high end card side of things and the 480 delivers a 580's performance with an oc and under water.

isnt the 6870x2 only 1gb? i dont think that will suffice for me it should just be 2x 1gb.

but if it is 2gb then great.

i would say get the gtx580 msi lightning version then, its a good looking card, runs amazing from all the reviews i have seen, and later on you can always add another one. just get a good monitor that 1080p, personaly tho i wouldnt even been looking at a graphics card with your resolution and still running vga, HD monitor and a grapgics card is what you need, it all comes down to personal choice, if you go with the 480's its going to create a lot of heat, if you get a 580, it runs smoother and cooler, and if you decied later on to do a 580 sli setup, it will be better then 480 sli set up. but its up to you, but i can say with confidence everyone will say 580

but what are the benifits of the 580 ovet the 480 that makes it double the price, trifire 480 = 1.5 580's i dont understand the increase in cost to such little performance increase. double price 15-30% faster, doesnt make sence i would rather watercool 3 480's have them at 580 speeds rather than have 2 580's at stock. if you know what i am saying, let say 1k budget. i can get 3 480's and half a wc setup (no cpu), or 1.8 580's lol.

i have been looking through pccg i will buy 2 480'ss ($664 australian(SAME PRICE AS THE 580!)) and a wc setup for them.|

ok i know this block doesnt cover all the mosfets or whatever but how important is it to use ram sinks on them?
EK-VGA Supreme HF Acetal+EN Nickel

but what are the benifits of the 580 ovet the 480 that makes it double the price

Not sure what you're looking at, but the 580 commands a huge lead over the 480 in single card mode, and two 480's in SLI can come close to the 580 sure, but you also have to consider other factors like power usage and the family's progression. Maybe you don't care about it, but I like the fact that the 580 is nearly everything nVidia intended Fermi to be, and the power usage is more under control, as is heat, etc.

Another factor to understand is that SLI is largely wasted unless you're using a large monitor with a high resolution. You're basically overbuying with SLI unless you have a high resolution you intend to game at.

Its your money either way. Just items to consider.
