Basically the little switch on the side of my iPhone is no longer functioning, and it costs $50 to replace, so I am looking for a way to override it via software. idk if anyone here knows anything, but it's worth a shot because my phone has been stuck on vibrate for the last three months. The phone is not jailbroken, but I will do that if completely necessary.

I tried to take the phone apart and repair the switch, but it is horribly complicated (just like everything apple makes...)

EDGE iPhone if it matters. I am running OS 3.1 I think.

Unfortunately I have the EDGE iPhone, not the 3G. The switch is part of the aluminum back of the phone, so it is expensive to replace.

I asked the 'genius' at the apple store where I could find a supplier for the parts for just the switch and he basically said 'uhhhhh..... I can sell you a new phone for $100 +$30 a month.'

ugh.

Ehhhh.... that is just the plastic piece, not the complex internal mechanism.

I doubt this is just a swappable part, as it appears to be glued in place, and is made out of a bunch of tiny pieces.
