Default website virus?

can a website give you a virus just by browsing it? which websites are most likely to give you a virus? which websites gave you a virus?

A website itself should not be able to give you a virus (when a Firewall is used). Don't go to FREE SCREENSAVER! websites or stuff like ***FREE ONLINE GAMES****, they can give you tons of spyware. Not sure about virus though... not too likely, unless you download stuff from it.

yes they definitely can give u viruses, but this doesn't happen too often. Bus as linnerd said u can get a lot of spyware and adware too.

LOL no you dont need an executable, all you need is an exploit to take advantage of the many holes in IE or the others. Execute a specially crafted active X controll through the browser and you can do whatever you would like.

and to the original poster, yes it is possible and quite common for spyware/trojans. Most of the time if you do get one of these you were probably on a site you shouldnt have been such as a porn or crack site. good example of this is cracks.am <--go there for free virus's/trojans on your pc LOL

I use windows but if you go to dodgy websites, install linux on a small partition on your hard drive - you should be safe as houses!
