hi all,
i had a popup on screen this morning referring to the abovr scam, it didnt lock my laptop but it just wouldnt close. came home this evening and restarted the laptop and it seems to have gone! is there anyway i can confirm that it has gone can i scan for it? is it doing horrible things to my laptop in the vbackground? or can i just forget about it?

Do a scan. If it doesn't find anything, then don't worry about it.
If it pups pops op again, Take a snapshot of it and post it here.
 
Its a virus and ransomware Remove Australian Federal Police virus (Ukash Scam).

The bogus alert from the Australian Federal Police Ransom will display the following message:

What Anti-Virus software do you have?

Other than a Anti-Virus scan, a spyware scan i also a good idea.
I wounld use Spybot

Download the free edition. It's gonna find something. Not necessarily anything harmful. Just a heads up.
This is because i cleans up stuff in the registry. It will say it's harmful errors, but in reality they are just errors. ofcause it might also find some real threads.
I have to say it's a long time sens i have used this software. I can see they have made a huge change in the UI sense i used it.

Usually, crap like that just locks up your browser using some neat java tricks.
If it did not show back up, and has not come back by now, then that is all you encountered.
A lot of ransomware actually goes so far as to encrypt your personal data, or just cover your system with an always on top window, ect... If that where happening, then I would be worried as that can be a bit harder to remove. As it stands, you look ok right now.

Source: I am 24 (will be 25 in december) and have been removing malware sense I was 9. So Lots of experiance lol
