Default Technospaz requires help!

Hi there.

I'm desperately in need of help.

My brother used my pc to visit some 'game' sites (ha! more like pron sites) and now my browser has been hijacked, I can't get rid of it and it's driving me nuts.

Here is what I have tried so far:

1) Ran AVG (free edition), it came back clean.

2) Ran spybot (free again) which picked up a few things that weren't there yesterday, naturally I deleted them.

3) Ran spyblaster ..... not quite sure I understood anything it did but I tried it anyway.

The problem still exists.

So, then I googled about and read about hijackthis. So yes I d/l 'd it and ran it .... but I haven't got a clue what I should be looking for.

The 'site' that is now my homepage is http:/iesecurepage.com (deliberately haven't typed the second / in that so you don't hit it and end up with the same problem) not only do I get the page but a darn annoying pop up WARNING thing ....

I'm going crazy.

Other details that may be relevent, as best as I can give them:

Win XP (hexed pee more like)

I use zonealarm firewall - set on max 90% of the time

Don't know what other info you might need but will keep an eye on this thread and would be really grateful if someone would take pity on me and HELP!

Thanks people.

Valks

PS just thought to tell you ... the only way I can access any other part of the interblurt is to hit the google link on my toolbar and go that way. It's really getting up my nose.

Thanks again.

run hijack this and copy and paste the logfile here: http://www.hijackthis.de/ and delete anything that comes up as bad. That's what I use and it hasn't failed me yet! also for a backup antivirus program use BitDefender Free Edition 8. It doesn't have realtime protection which is what you want so they don't conflict but it does detect some stuff that AVG won't.

Hope that helps!

Try to clear your cookies and temporary files in the browser's options. Also, since it seems like spyware, if HijackThis doesn't help, try AdAware SE. It has real time protection disabled in the free version, but scan with it, it's my favorite anti-spyware program.

Also, make sure you're scanning in safe mode. Sometimes the spyware/virus will screw up the anti-spyware/virus if it is not in safe mode (press F8 during boot up)

Another thing to check are the startup services. In the Run dialog, type in msconfig, and go to the startup tab. Deselect anything that seems suspicious, and click OK.
