Default Serial number international file

Hi.

You know sometimes when you buy a computer it asks you to give your names and to register wether with apple or microsoft. Do you think there is some kind of a big big database holding info about mac adresses so they can track back hackings ? That would be good news. The most frustrating to me is to lose data without being able to complain against someone

I doubt it. First they probably wouldn't even get the computer's mac address, more like your modems which can send out multiple activations (more than one computer on the network) or get swapped out due to a failure.

Even if it did see your computer's mac, that can be spoofed to appear as something else, a new network card can be added, or in the case of a laptop you already have two MACs and only one of them would have sent the registration data. That doesn't even cover replacing a failed motherboard with an integrated NIC which would give you a new MAC.

Long story short, if they tracked by MACs there would be a lot of false positives.
