The Return of Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT

Just imagine trembling strings, growling trombones, and the late Don LaFontaine saying it.

Using Ad-aware, scanned a friend's computer since it was running slowly; I suspected it was probably infected with something. The scan turned up that trojan virus. I also ran it in Safe Mode to make sure it wasn't still there. Came clean, so I restarted the computer in Normal Mode.

Cut to a couple months later and I'm back, and the computer is running slow again, so I run Ad-aware (not in Safe Mode a second time, as before) and there's the Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT back, again!

I tried an internet search to see if anybody had the problem of it returning, using a couple keywords like "reinstalled", but didn't find anything.

He uses the computer for online banking, BestBuy, e-mail primarily -- doesn't even know how to download an attachment; doesn't do porn. He not downloading anything and rarely uses it. I am knowledgable and don't fall for the common tricks, and I'm also not downloading anything, so I'm thinking Ad-aware didn't get it and there is still some kind of file or something lurking in the computer.

How the hell do I get rid of this gorram SOB?

WindowsVista
IE7

Avast. I have never used anti-virus before, and for the most part hate them. But Avast uses very little in resources, and has kept my computer clean ever since I installed it. Plus it's free!

Nod32, Norton 360, Bitdefender, Kaspersky etc etc dnt really use alot of resources now

Yeeeaaahhhhg, but as I said -- got Ad-aware. It found it. But there must be some remnant lurking that re-installs itself upon restarting. So unless somebody knows otherwise, any of those listed, could make the same mistake.

Ad-Aware isn't much of a antivirus. It's not meant to be used as the sole security program. You need better security. A free antvirus such as Avast or Aviria would be a good idea.
