Default registry

I have a desktop Gateway GM5442 with Vista . While doing a scan , I found I had a Virus, didnt say what type. In trying to reinstall my virus protection,(which I like ) somehow through stupidity I clicked on something that changed my registry.

How to I know this for sure and what do i do about it. I didnt do any backups because when I go to computer , I always see a Recover D: drive and always assume thats the backup. So how can I know if it was changed ?

I also notice that when I go to move my shows from C: (where I record them through my tv tuner) to K: (my external drive ) , it tells me that they are no longer in C . I can click on them in C and watch them , yet it tells me they are no longer there. Could that be because of the registry misup ?
