First thing that pops up in my head would be to remove the virus ASAP.

I used to use AVG but I use Kaspersky from --> http://www.kaspersky.com/

AVG is excellent software don't get me wrong. However, I perfer Kaspersky.

If I have a spyware issue I will use spybot and or adAware from lavasoft.

If I have a rootkit on my system I will use Icesword from http://www.antirootkit.com/software/IceSword.htm

and F-secure blacklight from
http://www.f-secure.co.uk/blacklight/blacklight.html

all are excellent software

I would remove the virus ASAP aswell,i do a virus scan everyday and i also do a spybot search and destroy everyday.
Once i had 728 viruses all at once without me knowing if you get that many,i simply backed everything up and installed windows from the beggining.
