Default Mcafee anti-virus

Been Using Version 6 of this for a few years. When the free auto updates ran out after a year, I just manually updated via their web site.

Now they dont seem to be available and its asking me to pay for a new license.

Can some one ITK recommend a decent free anti-virus, or a way to get the McAfee dat files for free.

At the moment I'm only one update out of date, but, want to make sure the dats are not out of date for too long.
