hackers

Broadband is only said to be less secure because it is always on.

Dialup is NOT more secure. It actually makes it more difficult to download security updates and patches.

It is not worth sacrificing better service for myths of extra security.

About the logs of IPs. Probably just port scans or zombies. Nothing to worry about. If it were ONE computer attacking you constantly, then you should look into it.

Don't hackers have programs that just scan networks and the internet in general for possible intrusion points? If that's so, it's not really that big of a deal when you block them is it? I mean it's not like it was a direct attack right? I get those alerts all the time too.
yeah port scanners, i have a friend who has his very own server in his house and he said he had firewalls and sniffers on there and he said you would not believe the number of port scannings he would get, like 100+ per day.

my apache logs are like 60k lines long and failed ssh attempts are like 10k lines long on my server. changed port from 22 to something non-standard and it seemed to reduce the # of scans / attacks by a lot
